Sene East MP Advocates Provision Of Mechanized Water System For Constituents

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Sene East constituency, Dominic Napare is advocating government through the Water Resources Ministry for the provision of Small Town water system (mechanized water system) for some major towns including Bodinka, Nyankontre, Nketia Kurom Premuase and Kojokrom in the Sene East District of the Bomo East region.

The stated communities have been without access to portable drinking water for a very long time.

Mr Napare made the appeal on the floor of Parliament through a paliamentary question to the Minister for Sanitation and water resources, Dr Freda Akosua Prempeh on plans the ministry have to provide Small Town water system (mechanized system) to the listed communities.

In her response, the minister noted that the provision of Three Small Towns Water System will help meet the water needs of the communities and disclosed that the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) has plans to commence and complete designs for the water system by end of first quarter of 2024 in readiness for implementation.

She however indicated that the plan is subject to availability of funds for the project.

With regards to the Sene MP’s further question on what plans tthe ministry has to provide Solar Electricity system to small town water system, particularly for the Kajaji and Basa small town water systems to reduce operational cost and ensure affordability to the beneficiary communities, the minister indicated that there is a a deliberate strategy by government to explore the use of sustainable and less cost energy options.

Hon Freda Akosua Freda Prempeh also said, there is a consistent policy to install hybrid pumps on all new water systems constructed while gradually changing all existing pumps to hybrid to accommodate solar energy.

The Minister assured that Kajaji and the Basa communities will be considered to enjoy hybrid powered energy when funds are available.

The Sene East lawmaker also requested to know what measures the ministry is putting in place to upgrade the limited Mechanized water system at the Basa small town water system in view of the increased population of the Basa senior High which is now Boardinised.

Hon Freda Prempeh revealed that the Basa community has been listed among the priority projects in the the Region and planned implementation is scheduled for 2024 subject to the available funds.
