Domelevo Worried About Too Many Corrupt Christians & Catholics In Ghana

October 2, 2023

Former Auditor General of the Republic of Ghana, Mr Daniel Yaw Domelevo has expressed worry about what he said are too many corrupt people who profess as Christians and Catholics in Ghana.

According to him, the development is militating against the fight against the menace which is contributing largely to drawing Ghana back in development.

Mr Domelevo is of the conviction that the Church is responsible for instilling moral principles in its members and should be bold enough to talk about how corrupt Catholics and the entire Christian community have become when they attend Masses and Church services.

Speaking at the launch of the Ghana Chapter of the Catholic Youth Network for Environmental Sustainability in Africa (CYNESA) at the St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church, Accra on September 30, 2023, Mr Domelovo urged young people not to emulate the corrupt practices of the current generation but think about what they can do to help the future generation.

“I cry for the youth. Honestly, I cry for you because today, corruption seems to be the order of the day. Our generation is extremely corrupt. Father, I don’t know if you know about this. Be telling us when we come to Church. There are too many corrupt Christians and Catholics. Someone whose salary is not up to five thousand and you see the type of mansion he or she is staying in and the type of vehicle they drive. And you would like to ask, where are they getting it from? So the young ones like you are also learning. They think that the end justifies the means and not the means justifying the end,” Mr. Domelevo said.

“Please let’s go back to our values. Let’s take time and God being on our side, he knows what we need. Let’s be moderate in our desires to satisfy ourselves and I think that the future will be bright. What are we leaving behind? Do you think your children’s children would think you were intelligent or an idiot? How we are using are God-given talent is disturbing. I would urge the youth in particular, when you find yourselves in leadership positions especially those who will join government and politics not to abuse your positions to amass wealth. I don’t know what you will be doing with that wealth,” He added.
