Electrochem Ghana Has Integrated Community Salt Mining- Dr McKorley
Contrary to claims that the livelihoods of residents of the Ada Songor enclave have been takeaway from them as a result of the inauguration of the Electrochem Ghana Salt Mine and Processing Plant, the communities still have the opportunity to carry out their day to day mining activities.
Group Chairman of the McDan Group of Companies, Dr Daniel McKorley has revealed that, the Electrochem Ghana has integrated community mining by setting aside specific zones within the enclave to allow for community mining activities for residents in order not to deny them of their regular mining activities.
In addition to the designated community mining sites, residents are also allowed to mine in other places within the enclave but are however expected to do so according to permissible international standards.
“…We’ve quad off places for the community to do their salt, we have introduced the community salt mining. Am talking about the impact of what we have done there. At the same time, apart from that, the community can also do salt in other place but they have to do the salt according to international standards. And we have given them contracts to sell back to the company so that they have ready market for their salt”, Dr McKorley said on Joy FM Super Morning Show.
As a further demonstration of its commitment to carrying the communities along, Electrochem Ghana has given each of these communities eleven pans ( thus brime storage reservoirs) to enhance their production levels.
An estimated 998,000 bags of salt is expected to be produced annually by these community miners whiles the company has signed purchase contract agreements to provides ready market for the salt produced by the miners.

Eletrochem is expanding its infrastructure to the eastern part of Ada to employ an additional 3000 employees or more to the current 3000.
An export port project is also expected to begin at the Eastern part of Ada soon.
Responding to the question about he he was able to make the Electrochem Ghana dream possible, Dr McKorley acknowledged the role of remaining focus, respect for people, carrying others along whiles exhibiting courage in the midst of discouragements.
He expressed respect and gratitude to the people of Ada for allowing the project to see the light of day stating that the project is bigger than him who is only the torch bearer.
