Electrochem Ghana: Salt Is The Most Important Commodity On Earth- McDan
Group Chairman of the McDan Group of Companies, the parent company of Electrochem Ghana Limited operators of Africa’s largest salt mine, the Electrchem Ghana Ada Songor Salt Project, Dr Daniel McKorley has underscored the importance of salt in the existence human life.
According to him, salt is the most important commodity on earth since it is used in almost everything needed for the survival of the human race.
Speaking on Accra based Joy Fm’s Super Morning Show Friday September 22, 2023 to illustrate the significance of salt, McDan as he is popularly known said 14, 000 uses can be derived from the commodity and therefore the growth of the salt industry of a particular country signifies the growth of country’s industries.
“..If you look around the world, there is no important commodity than salt, salt is used for everything, almost everything, the shirt you are wearing, the paper in your hand, the pen in your hand, this mic am speaking into. everything is salt. You can get 14, 000 uses from salt. And any country, immediately your salt industry begin to grow, that means you are industralising. Everything in salt, every chemical, the dettol we use, the soap we use, ceramics tyles that is extracted is also salt, even your body, without salt, five minutes you are dead. so salt is everything, the pharmaceutical companies, that is how important salt is” Dr McKorley told host Kojo Yankson.
Dr McKorley on the show spoke on array of issues including the difficult decision that has to be taken to make the dream a reality, the massive employment being generated by the project, the several corporate social responsibility interventions among others.
He disclosed that his outfit is building and export port in Ada specifically for the export of salt and related commodities and also hinted of the establishment of a Chemical University at Ada.
Electrochem Ghana limited is aimed at becoming a net exporter of salt from Ghana to other parts of Africa and beyond.
