Electrochem’s Songor Salt Development Project Will Transform The Ghanaian Economy-Akufo-Addo
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says the ongoing Songor development project which is being championed by Electrochem Ghana Limited has the capacity of transforming not only the Ada state but the economy of the country at large.
According him the lives of the people of Ada will be positively impacted by the project and urged them to continue supporting the company and the activities to redevelop the concession into a world class salt production site.
ElectroChem Ghana Limited, a wholly Ghanaian owned mining company which has secured a concession of 41,000 acres at the Ada Songor to produce 1,000,000 metric tons of salt every year.
It is the largest salt and chlorine-alkali manufacturing company in West Africa, and one of the leading players in the world’s salt industry.

The President made these remarks while addressing am impressive crowd of chiefs and people of the Ada traditional area as well as visitors and tourists at the Asafotu park located at Big Ada during the grand durbar of this year’s Asafotu festival (Asafotufiami 2023) over the weekend.
President Akufo-Addo who was accompanied by the Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Stephen Asamoah Boateng ,the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey and a host of other government functionaries expressed excitement about the level of support the majority of the people of Ada were giving to Electrochem Ghana as it feverishly works to revamp the concession.

“… I want all the people in Ada to continue giving maximum support to Electrochem Ghana Limited since the project has the capacity to transform the lives of the citizenry in addition to transforming Ada and Ghana’s economy. In so doing, government will also be able to respond to some of the matters that Djetse has raised such as environmental preservation, global warming, the surge in the sea and its devastating effect on the island and coastal communities, the development of road infrastructure, among others. ” the President noted.
He said “… a lot has been done on roads across the country but there is a lot more that will be done and you can be sure that government will not leave out the people of Ada.”

In his welcome address, the Paramount Chief of the Ada Traditional Area and President of the Ada Traditional Council, Djetse Abram Kabu Akuaku III expressed profound gratitude to the President for making time to grace the festival for the first time since the lease of the Songor concession for revamping.
“Your Excellency, this is the first time we are hosting you here as a people with your very own presence after the lease of the concession. My appreciation to you cannot be overemphasized because the request for the revamping of the Songor which I have made for decades to successive governments but to no avail has today seen the light in your time,” he said.
Djetse Abram Kabu Akuaku III also paid a sacred homage to the founding fathers; the great warriors and the heroes who bravely fought and struggled through different periods from Ad 1750 onwards to establish the Ada state and in whose everlasting memory the people of Ada gather to celebrate annually, their brave and heroic feats and exploits as a sacred reminder to the current generation.
This year’s festival which is still in full swing is the 86th edition after its institution in 1937 is on the theme, ‘Honouring our heroes, revamping our natural resources and unlocking our tourism potentials.”
