All Is Set For The Grand Ada Asafotufiami Today

August 5, 2023

The Chiefs, Elders and people of Ada in the Greater Accra region are set for the grand durbar of the 2023 edition of their annual Asafotufiami today with President of the republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo expected to be the Guest of Honour.

Asafotufiami is celebrated to remember the Ada indigenes’ cultural history, customs, and traditions, as well as to pay homage to their predecessors who had paved the way for them.

The Traditional Council last month in partnership with the Ada East District Assembly, the Member of Parliament, the District Chief Executive and religious leaders launched the 2023 edition of the festival which is celebrated in August on the theme: “Honouring our heroes, revamping natural resources, and unlocking tourism potential.”

The celebration does not only showcases the values and fortitude of the people, but it also served as a poignant reminder of Ada’s resilience and collective strength.

Asafotufiami’s significance transcends mere celebration and draws people from all walks of life together and provides an opportunity for the people of Ada to demonstrate their hospitality and generosity in welcoming visitors from near and far whiles emphasizing unity, respect, and love both during and after the celebration.

Activities that preceeded today’s grand festival include clean-up activities on July 31, kenkey party, and on August 2, candlelight parade through some principal streets in the district capital.

Other activities were a homecoming float which was held on August 3, 2023, a visit to the sacred forest, boxing night, and a beauty pageantry, Miss Asafotu.

The Grand Durbar of chiefs and people is expected to showcase the rich tradition of Ada, characterized by cultural displays, musical and dance performances, and other traditional actions.

The chiefs and people will on August 6, 2023 attend a non-denominational Thanksgiving, which would serve as a merger of tradition and Christianity.

A royal walk, marathon, regatta, tug of war, community football, playing of card tournament, food fair, indigenous song and dance competition among other will be held to crow it all by August 9, 2023.
