NPP Supporters Against Decentralised Super Delegates Congress
A group of New Patriotic Party supporters has stormed the premises of Alisa Hotel in Accra where the National Council and the National Executive Council of the party are meeting demanding that the planned Super Delegates Congress to reduce the number of presidential aspirants should be held at a centralised location.
Members of the group say their action is to mount pressure on the National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Council who in the crucial not to consider decentralising the selection process as it finalises the elections processes.
According to one of the leaders of the aggrieved party supporters, Yaw Obeng Boateng, decentralising the voting will compromise the election process.
Some political watchers say supporters of other candidate fear, the odds as it is now favour the establishment candidate in the person of Vice President, Dr Mahamaudu Bawumia if the process is decentralised.
According to them, the other nine candidates do not have established monitoring systems to man a decentralised process of the presidential candidate primaries hence their opposition.
However, chairman of the National Council, Hackman Owusu-Agyeman assured of the National Council’s decision to listen to every one in a free, fair and transparent manner without favour and take a decision in the best interest of the party.
