Aide To O.B Amoah Is NPP Parliamentary Candidate For Akuapem South

March 3, 2024

The special aide to current Member of Parliament for Akuapem South in the Eastern region, O. B. Amoah, Eric Apeadu Yeboah has been elected the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the constituency.

Mr Yeboah secured 267 votes out of the total valid votes cast, representing 49.3% against three others at the parliamentary primaries held on Saturday, March 2, 2024.

A total of 574 delegates voted in the Akuapem South primaries held at the Presby Women’s College of Education in Aburi.

Leadership of the party had postponed the election following the late withdrawal of the incumbent Member of Parliament, O.B Amoah, from the contest.

After several discussions, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the area, Frank Aidoo, was included on the ballot since he could not have contested against the incumbent according to the party’s regulations.

Constestants in the primaries includes, the MCE, Frank Aidoo, Eric Yeboah Apeadu, Eric Samuel Annor Mensah, and Kwame Ofori Gyau

The Akuapem South primaries begun smoothly but was almost marred after an allegation emerged that one of the candidates had camped some delegates in a room next to the voting center.

A swift intervention by security personnel and regional executives prevented the scene from escalating.

At the end of the polls, the Municipal Chief Executive Frank Aidoo had 69, Eric Samuel Annor Mensah got 54, Kwame Ofori Gyae had 152 whiles Eric Yeboah Apeadu emerged the victor.

The Eastern Regional Secretary of the party Tony Osei Adjei who supervised the elections in an interview refuted claims that the delayed conduct of the primaries would affect the fortunes of the party in the general elections.

On unity, Mr Osei Adjei said the party has outlined plans to bring unity among the rank and file of the party in the constituency.

The Parliamentary Candidate, Eric Yeboah Apeadu was full of gratitude to the delegates for the honour done him and called on them to work hard for the party to break the 8 in the December elections.

The incumbemt lawmaker for the area, O. B. Amoah emphasised the need for unity in the party going into the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.
