W’ll Sue The State For The Malicious Prosecution Of ACP Agordzo- Martin Kpebu

Counsel for Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Dr. Benjamin Agordzo who has been acquitted and discharged of an alleged high treason charges by the High Court has sereved notice that his client will sue the state for malicious prosecution.

Lawyer Martin Kpebu who sereved as counsel for ACP Agordzo during the trial minced no words just after the judgement in serving notice of the intended action describing the case as frivilous and malicious.

According to him, the Attorney General knew the case against his client was frivilous but kept pushing for his prosecution and stated that his outfit will retun to the cout seeking compensation from the state.

“The state weaved a very frivolous case around his neck and today you see the court has exonerated him”.

“We will sue the state for compensation, for this case has always been frivolous against him from day one. We will look at malicious prosecution and all the other courses of action,” Martin Kpebu stated.

Meanwhile, ACP Agordzo in an interview says he knew he would be acquitted by the court since the inception of the legal action against him in the coup plot case.

Singing Ntokozo Mbambo’s “Jehovah Is Your Name,” joyful ACP Agordzo and his family waved in praise to God for being acquitted.

He told journalists that  “Our God doesn’t fail.”

Responding to how he felt, ACP Agordzo said, “I have always been free within my heart. I have always been free because I knew how it was going to end. From the beginning, I knew how it was going to end today. I didn’t know when it was going to end, but I knew how it was going to end. It is like watching a movie replay with somebody.”

The court also acquitted and discharged Colonel Samuel Kodzo Gameli, and one other junior military officer, Corporal Seidu Abubakar.

The High Court however convicted six of the coup plotters on counts of conspiracy to commit high treason and committing high treason.

The six convicted for plotting a coup have been sentenced to death by hanging.

he six persons sentenced to hanging including three soldiers – Donya Kafui, aka Ezor (a blacksmith), and Bright Alan Debrah Ofosu (a fleet manager), were found guilty of conspiracy to commit treason and treason, while Johannes Zikpi (a civilian employee of the Ghana Armed Forces), was found guilty of conspiracy to commit high treason.
