Teachers Union Calls For Investigations After Students Were Caught Using AI to Cheat In Examination
The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), has called for an investigation into the alleged use of artificial intelligence (AI)-generated answers, by some candidates in the 2023 WASSCE.
The president of NAGRAT, Angel Carbonu, shows concerns about the number of schools implicated in the alleged AI malpractices. As a matter of facts, he also complained about the teaching staff monitoring the students.
He complained about the easiness the students had in the the first place, to be able to access their phones without any restrains.
He said spoke on Citi News, saying “It sounds strange to me that some of the names that I’m hearing are the schools where the students had the opportunity to use AI… At what point did the students access the AI information on the mobile phones?”
Afterwards, The WAEC (West African Examination Council) suspended the release of some subjects for candidates from 235 schools who provided AI-generated answers during the 2023 WASSCE.
Subsequently, WAEC nullified the subject results of 3,647 candidates who purposedly, brought foreign documents, such as, prepared notes, textbooks and printed materials into the examination halls.
839 candidates were caught using mobile phones in the examination hall, and their results were also cancelled.
