30-year-old illegal miner tragically drowns in trench created by excavator

A 30-year-old illegal miner identified as Kwadwo Owusu, has drowned into a trench on a mining site at Manso Adubia in the Amansie south district of the Ashanti region.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, September 4 2024, during break time at the site.

According to his colleague miners, Owusu may have been intoxicated at the time of the incident, which led him to drown unfortunately.

This incident has raised concerns about the safety of the miners and the use of alcohol on the mining sites. Illegal miners often make use of the alcoholic drinks on these sites to ease stress and reduce the impact of the workload.

However, kwadwo Owusu was not so fortunate to avoid this incident.

Following the incident, the Manso, Adubia police community came to transfer the body to the mortuary for preservation. In addition, an investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the incident and to ensure such tragic occurrences are prevented in the future.
