3 New Judges Nominated To The Supreme Court Of Ghana
The President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo has nominated 3 Justices of the appeals court to Join the apex court of Ghana.
The nomination of the 3 justices became neccesary due to the retirement of some of the judges of the Supreme Court, namely Rt. Hon Justice Dotse among others.
The President in a communication to parliament, seeking parliamentary approval for the 3 Judges, said that, Inclusive of the Chief justice – Gertrude Torkornoo, there are only 13 actively serving Supreme Court Justices, hence the need to appoint more judges to the Apex court.
The nomination according to the president are within provisions of Article 1442 of the 1992 constitution through the Attorney General, and the advice of the Judicial Council as well as the council of state.
The consultation the president noted turned out to be positive in that regard. Hence the names:
- Appeal Court Judge, Justice Henry Anthony Kofi
- Appeals Court Judge, Justice Yaw Asare Darko
- Appeals Court Judge, Justice Richard Adjei Frimpong
The CVs of the nominees have also have been attached to the letter addressed to parliament.
In the concluding quote to parliament, he said, ” I’m fully satisfied that each of these persons are duly qualified and eminently fixed to discharge the functions of a Justice of the Supreme Court”.
